for Willow

By

Poet: E.Ergin

I trace back the steps that I took that day,
when the sky was just the grayest, and the rain was my only companion,
I was young as a clover, nothing but lost on the way
until I saw something different,
then what happened was something pleasant.
The next thing I knew, we were running through the mountains,
jumping over the very harsh rivers and sleeping through the coldest nights.
The ever-changing truth was our hearts and the seasons,
maybe the truth has always been there.
We are now running with the new shoes we wear.
Words and poems and heaven-sent cities,
they never let us go, they squeeze us inside their palms.
We never took it for granted, just sat with the breeze;
maybe the ride will be free
may there be a view to see.
Sometimes there are apologies accumulating inside of me.
I feel sorry for everything the universe put us all through.
I just know I will be there when you bleed,
you cannot stop evolution;
it is nature and our salvation.
Willow, get on that train and go far as your heart desires.
Sadness will be just a mosaic of this brick of time.
Bitterness will be another trace from the pretenders and the liars.
There are new mountains,
all our blessings are counted.
Willow, dearest of the dear friends of mine,
with daisies in your hair and glitter on your cheeks.
For the sake of poetry, keep walking on that line.
We have yet many pretty cities to conquer
with many polaroids to capture.

Editor's note: I am glad I had lost my card that day, I am glad you had found it, I am glad that we had talked about crime shows with coffee who knows for how long. Luckily I will always be truly, completely, honestly known by you. Remember I will always be here for you - trying to memorize, recognize, and cherish every version of you. I hope we will talk about poems, life, and everything all at once together again soon.
