THYATIRA notes

By

Poet: Işıl Ayça Akkuş

To my dear friend pearl, all my people who are terrified and left behind, for the kids of past, today and the future.

My land is sacred
With the hope of the people
Sweat, bread, and a relentless faith
Freedom flees, songs of tomorrow

Ancient empires leak through white matter
Columns of legacy
Only the brave write
When cruelty sinks into graveyards
The wicked rule, cowards in disguise

When the will of many
Is imprisoned in apathy
Women in the news,
Faces, the tragedy of many.
Leviathan plays a parody,
Minerva is furious.
No justice is served,
Your own children are abandoned.
Years of grey in millions' hair,
A sip of youth's despair.

My land is sacred
We still fight a learned hopelessness
We shall walk now
Courage of heart
Many before came forward
What will be subjugated next?
Our wills, dreams, bodies,
Constructed selves
Only for salvation, no living condition
What a banal evil
Taking children, women, animals pressed under

They say she fall from balcony,
Killed themselves, or lost in memory
We know this is all lie,
To protect suits, rotten chairs and dice
Cases closed, punishment is lost,
There is no good thou heart only devil
Yet time off given for good behavior
Where is our sisters,
Hide in houses, suitcases and rivers?

Give my land back
All dictators are doomed to end
As there is no legitimacy
In your schemes and legacy
No sovereign shall be terrified
By the rightful rival,
Even before the will is rectified.
"The Prince" suggests it is better
To be feared than loved

The leviathan's name says the opposite,
Thou art neither feared nor loved
There is no bravery in games of slaughter
Thou art neither brave nor gentle

Leave my childhood, people, and future free
We shall not surrender
No enemy within us
Cry over bread shoulder to shoulder
None wins the riddle
Only the great pretender

We are the voice
You never listen to
We are the scream
When your dirty hands
Close our mouths,
Coming our behind
Cause you are too weak to fight
Taking my safety, joy and freedom
Insecure monsters shadowing midnight walks
When the lights are off
No matter day or night

Running in fear
As we scream louder
Cause you understand
This is stronger than you,
or your weak presence

What we are wearing
or was that behavior right?
We are the name you fear
As your rotten system trembles
We are the future
'Cause all of them are terrified.
The moment we stand up
Hiding to the corners
Right when we shout out
Look, we are not alone, only millions!
Going against the stream of violence
Even when no one understood,
Even when all clapped:
“Oh, but they are good.”
Love is when we stand for each other
When the night is cold
Your sick gaze goes through

Lingers in places,
As if we were objects,
Never existed as humans
Honor defined by our body?
No logic, rain check!
All of you are cowards, alas!
Stabs in our back
By people who should stand for us
Instead bystanders,
Choosing perpetrators
Rather than victims to symphatize
Your smile disgusts me
Do not claim justice alas!
While all you do is watch

Oh my dear people
It is not bravery
When it is your brother
You speak for only
Trying to hunt women
Then call it a joke,
Oh but don't call it out
Be a nice girl,
If you speak one time,
They will shift all blame
Ignore their whisper
Be silent, behave normal
When they have no shame,
Taking your grace and name
While they should be the one
Who were left alone,
You look through the room
The so called right advocates,
People who are very nice,
So good that they can stand by a devil

Understand them, but not us
We are childish for speaking, or reacting alas!
Laugh with them, breaking lunches
Yet you have no love or empathy
For your own friends
As if we never cried together,
As if we were not home to each other
I am sick of your ignorance
Your scheme of playing good
While digging graves behind people's back

Clap for all of them now
Just remember,
Patriarchy always come after
First for the dusty clapper

The lecture of the world history
Don't think they will spare you
Just because
You did not challenge their order
Take your hypocrisy
and good deed act from me afar
I have been no saint
Alas, I was always real!

Soul sucking vampires
Only want profit, not a friend's shoulder
Oh but my pearl is sparkling,
It is an honor to just have one real
Rejecting acceptance of ignorant wheel
I am no angel
Yet I can never be a backstabber
For the sake of love, or devil's hustle
Can't you see now, it does not worth it
At the end, we only have each other
Approval of misogynistic monsters
Should only be your shame, no grace

Don't worry, your class of apathy
Will take it with joy
yet all of your audacity
Will leave no legacy
How dry and pathetic

That world of yours must be
Loud noise, no dynasty

Look again tomorrow,
All left is a crumbling tyranny
No folks to obey,
Only an empty echo,

We shall not go after anyone
Yet look, knock knock, it is karma!

Not an empty belief
Only hardwork in dedication
That's why we shall stand still
As lies and pretenders fail
Would you indeed think
The sinner would always get away
If the cost of saving us
Is to lose the claps of
silent masters,
Then it is my honor
Duty is served, alas!

I carry your hate as glorious badges

Future is coming,
Don't wait on your knife thrones
Only tremble, or dance if you can
Cause the wind of change is stronger,
There is no revolution without dance
No order of cruelty unchallenged

We don't seek love,
As we create everyday
Only dream of revolution
A better world,
Where there is justice for all
